Gloucester Day Parade
Saturday 2nd of September 2023
The Steampunks of Gloucestershire will be mustering at the DeCrypt Cafe 11:30am. Most of us will be attending the Thanksgiving service at 12 noon. We will then be joining the parade from 1:30pm on the bowling green behind the museum of Gloucester
The Cross Streets of Gloucester will come alive with stalls, stands, lively performances (on the stage on Southgate Street) and all the pomp and ceremony of the traditional Gloucester Day parade through the four main gated streets, led by the Mayor and Sheriff of Gloucester, in full Civic Regalia.
Gloucester Day traditionally marks the launch of the festival and raises morale in the City. The Gloucester Day event is the reinstatement of the original Gloucester Day – a day of celebration on the lifting of the siege of Gloucester – in 1643. This occasion was celebrated annually for centuries..

The Gloucester Day Committee invites you to join us on Gloucester Day for the Gloucester Day celebrations and parade. Please read carefully and respond A.S.A.P.
The event will take place in the Historic City of Gloucester, on Saturday 2nd September 2023. The first Parade, the Mock Mayor of Barton’s Parade, commences at 11 am followed by a Thanksgiving Day service at St Mary De Crypt. At 2 pm the Gloucester Day Parade will make its way through the four main gated streets and is led by the Mayor and Sheriff of Gloucester, in full Civic Regalia.
This event is designed to install and promote pride in our historic city by creating interest in its rich heritage and colourful past. The major catalyst is to reinstate the original Gloucester Day celebration, which was the lifting of the siege of Gloucester in 1643. This occasion was celebrated annually for centuries, hence Gloucester becoming known as The City saved by God.
The Gloucester Day Committee hope that you enjoy the event and will be encouraged to play your part by joining the Parade or manning a stall promoting your organisation and culture. In joining us you will be drawing attention to this great City by helping to install pride once again in its many institutions, be it civic, cultural, military, auxiliary or as active members and ambassadors of a charitable organisation, community or faith group. We encourage Regalia, Decorations, National Costumes to be worn prominently. Banners and flags of organisation may be paraded at the Gloucester day parade.
